Chaos, Wallpaper & Dr Pepper: Currently in the Middle of It

Let me just say this upfront—
This felt like a really good idea.
At the time.
I have a new hire starting Monday.
Candace. Big deal. Huge for me.
I’m excited, a little nervous, and I genuinely want her to walk in and feel like she’s stepping into something special.
So naturally…
Instead of just cleaning off a desk and getting organized like a normal person…
I have been:
redoing her entire office
committing to wallpaper (why?)
and turning this into a full-blown makeover
Because apparently I don’t know how to do anything halfway.
Now—important detail—
She hasn’t even started yet.
Also happening this exact same week:
I’m closing three custom homes
juggling clients, vendors, timelines, and constant phone calls
answering “quick questions” that are never quick
and just got back from a Texas to Nashville road trip and back in five days
No recovery time. No regroup.
Just straight back into it.
So right now…
I’m somewhere between:
wallpaper that’s not laying right
a closing that needs one more thing (there is always one more thing)
my third… maybe fourth Dr Pepper of the day
me standing in the middle of this office thinking,
“why did we choose this week?”
(by "we", I mean the 4,115,149,778 people that live in my ADHD OCD Brain)
But here’s the honest part—
I care. A lot.
I want her to feel:---welcomed---valued---excited to be here
And in my brain, that looks like creating a space that actually feels good when she walks in.
Not thrown together. Not last minute. Not just “good enough.”
So here I am…
Running on:
caffeine
very little sleep
a lot of decision-making
and honestly… God’s grace carrying most of this
Trying to hold it all together while also doing the absolute most.
And I can feel it—
The edge of being tired. The edge of “this is a lot.” The edge of laughing at myself because I KNOW I could’ve made this easier.
But also?
I’m proud.
Because even in the chaos—things are coming together.
Not perfectly. Not quietly. But they’re coming together.
Candace starts Monday.
The office is almost there. The homes are closing. The dust is… everywhere. And I am just praying that when she walks in—
She feels what I was trying to create…
…and not my lack of sleep and slightly unhinged energy.
If you’re in a week like this—
Where everything is happening all at once and you’re doing your best to show up for all of it—
Same.
Take a breath. Say a prayer. Drink your Dr Pepper.
We’ll get through it.
And maybe next time…
we don’t start a full office makeover the week everything else is happening.
