Building Women Empowerment: A Story from the Construction Industry

One such story comes from a purchasing manager, Brandy, who defied the odds and rose through the ranks in a prominent construction company, DR Horton, to owning her own custom home building company in the West Texas oilfields, to relocating to Austin Texas and running all vendor relations at a start-up when she pivoted in her career to spend more time with her husband and kiddos in a much better climate with more water and more trees. Starting as an entry-level employee, Brandy's dedication to her craft and her ability to lead teams effectively have earned her the respect of her peers and supervisors. Despite facing challenges and skepticism early on in her career, Brandy's passion for construction and her determination to succeed have propelled her to where she is today - a role model for aspiring female builders... and the woman who taught me everything I know about this business. She also happens to be my big sister.

She has shattered glass ceilings in the construction industry, proving that women have a rightful place in traditionally male-dominated professions. I was lucky enough to watch her front row when she was elected as President of our Professional Builders Association, as well as watch her lead as President of the Professional Women in Building in our community organizations. Her attention to detail and ability to really see what her clients envision for themselves is only outdone by her love for crunching numbers, finding new trade partners to work with and accessing new technologies coming to the industry before anyone else has.

This story of resilience, perseverance, and success serve as a reminder that women have a valuable role to play in the construction industry. By amplifying the voices and accomplishments of women in construction, we can inspire future generations of female builders to pursue their passions fearlessly and confidently.
